Scissor Practice

Neevah loves to use scissors but most of the time she gets highly frustrated and gives up. This is a very easy way for your child to practice their scissor skills.

You will need
Marker Pen

To Make
1 .Draw marker lines on the paper for your child to follow
2 .Stick stickers at the top of the lines - I did this for 2 reasons it gave Neevah a point to aim for (Can you cut up to the Koala) and also to make her slow down a little as she didn't want to cut the stickers (In the past she has always tried to cut in a hurry)
3 .Invite your child to practice their scissor skills
Going a bit wobbly because she was cutting in a hurry

Nice and Steady great cutting along the line

The Zig Zag was a huge challenge for Neevah she kept trying to change hands when the line changed direction but with great determination she did it!

This is terrific! One think I like to do with very young children is start with snipping all the way around the edges of a sheet of paper too!

Thanks for the idea Deborah we will try snipping around the edge of a piece of paper tomorrow :)

Thanks for the reminder. Such a great skill to practice. We need to be using our scissors more.

Love this, I have gone back and forth on this kind of scissor practice (Should we be cutting for a purpose when we practice -like cutting out a shape, not just cutting to practice...) The kids in my class, really love this kind of cutting though, so most years I end up doing some of this. Love the sticker idea, great way to get them to slow down!!

My daycare children love using scissors. I start them at 2 years old. They LOVE to cut things out of my out of date school supply catalogs. I give them the envelopes that come with bills, etc. and they place their small pieces in them to take home. I have also done as you have above but I love that you have added the sticker at the end. We are doing that tomorrow!! Thanks for the idea!
