We Play - Outside Footprint Painting

Don't forget to stop by Childhood 101 We Play where you can find lots of other great play ideas....

We Play

Neevah loves making footprints on the concrete with her wet feet but is often disappointed in the hot weather with how fast they disappear. Today I mixed up some sidewalk/driveway paint so they could make longer lasting footprints and handprints outside on the concrete.

Sidewalk Paint
1/2 cup Cornflour
1/2 cup of Water
Roughly 6 drops of food colouring (I used 8 or 9 drops and it has resulted in smurf like fingers)
Mix well and then put the sidewalk paint in a large shallow container

Feeling the paint between his toes

Stamping makes good footprints

Taking big steps

Making a heel print

I love it when they share

Making handprints

The sidewalk paint washes off the concrete easily and the kids enjoyed helping with the cleanup almost as much as the did making the handprints and footprints.

Love it! We did hand and foot print paintings today, as we've never done it with feet before and they loved it. Will have to give this a go and do some on the drive while daddy's at work one day ;)

Awesome! Love this idea, we might have to try it out at the park this week. I had a laugh at your 'smurf fingers', I currently have three blue fingers from an activity today as well :-D I don't know why but the blue colouring is the only one I ever get on myself that wont wash off!

Hmmm .. .maybe I could buy some driveway paint and get Princess out there doing this to cover up the oil stains? No? It was a thought! LOL

Looks like it was lots of fun :)

We've done this before but soaking tennis balls in it and rolling and bouncing them - makes beautiful artwork on the driveway! http://momistheonlygirl.blogspot.com/2010/07/we-play-with-chalk-paint.html

I love the smurf-ness of your blue! Did your kiddos love the feeling of it under their feet?!

Caz - what a neat idea trying it out at the park! you might have a few other kiddies wanting to join in LOL

Amanda - we have a large oil stain on our driveway as well I wonder if the landlord would like blue paint covering it :)

Tricia - thanks for sharing the link! they both loved the feel of the paint on their feet. I was worried it might be a bit slippery in the container but it didn't seem to be

Kebeni - I had a quick go as well opting for handprints over footprints though :)

Becky - I hope the girls have lots of fun making footprints on the drive :)

How fun! This is a perfect use for corn starch paint! We've switched to adding washable paint instead of food coloring to ours, because sometimes my kids don't want to wash it off for a day or so, and if you don't rinse off the food coloring version right away it stains our concrete patio...

Thanks for the tip Maryanne we washed the paint off the concrete pretty quickly I never thought about it staining if left for a day or so

You are the ultimate fun mum! What a fun way of preserving those prints for a few extra precious moments.
