Christmas Crafts: Santa's Magic Key

What is a kid to do when you have no chimney for Santa to come down and Mum refuses to leave the window open? Make a Magic Santa Key of course. I have seen these for sale in the shops but why buy one when you can make your very own .... it may not last as long as a store brought version but a morning of fun each Christmas decorating a special Santa key outweighs that I think.

You will need
Card (something a bit sturdy would work best)
Coloured Card
Christmas Ribbon

To Make
1 .Cut out a key shape from card - I used this template for our key
2 .Paint the key
3 .While the paint is still wet sprinkle with glitter
4 .Shake off excess glitter
5 .Let Dry
6 .Repeat on reverse side
7 .From the coloured card make a tag and add the below poem to the tag - I haven't done this part yet as our printer is out of ink

We heard a legend. Is it true?
Of magic only you can do.
We'll leave out any plain old key,
and mark it "Santa" so you can see.

Your magic makes the key fit right,
so you can get inside that night.
Thank you Santa, here's our key.
The milk and cookies are on me!

8 .Attach the tag to the key with the Christmas Ribbon
9 .Put your key out for Santa on Christmas Eve

This is such a lovely idea - I know my son will love to do this (and there is not much call for a chimney in North Australia!).
Any chance you will let me include it in my sharing Christmas roundup (with a decorating theme) this Friday?

Thanks Becky I love how it turned out :)
although I am thinking of changing the words on the poem a little instead of 'leave out any plain old key' I think we will put 'leave out a special key' it seems to go better with the handmade key

Cat - Of course you can include it :) I love to share and honestly the more the merrier especially at Christmas

My mum gifted all the grandkids with one of the shop bought keys a few years ago, but they aren't as pretty as this one :)

What a good idea! We used to just leave a window open.

Such a good idea as we do not have a chimney! Plus I loved the little poem that came with it.
