We Play - Texture Painting

Don't forget to stop by Childhood 101 We Play where you can find lots of other great play ideas....

We Play

This painting idea originated with wanting something a bit different for our letter of the week craft M is for Monster. The textured paint would have been perfect for monster skin but unfortunately we were unable to finish out letter craft as I couldn't get the eyes etc to stick to the paint (possibly to lumpy?). Even though the originally idea was a fail it turned into a great free art session with both the kids loving the textured paint.

To Make the paint I added 1.5 - 2 teaspoons of salt to each colour .... the paint is a little clumpy on the brush so I wouldn't recommend using good brushes for this activity

as she painted she described the paint as scrunchy and crunchy

I love all the lumpy splotches he made

I really like how this paint turned out when the kids applied it thick it dried in lovely lumps and bumps and when they spread the paint out it had a great crystalline look with a slight sparkle due to the salt.

i like the effect. It would be good for finger painting as it would be very tactile I should imagine

What a great idea! Princess has asked to paint again this week, so I might just set it up for her the next day she has off and see how she goes :)

That is a great idea, I imagine it would be fun to fingerpaint with as well.
